This August, Djalenga Scott-Fines heads back into one of musical theatre's most iconic productions as she joins the International Tour of Chicago, playing the legendary Velma Kelly.

Balancing life on stage with co-founding Finesse is something DJ has always been passionate about. Staying actively connected to the industry means she can bring current experience, fresh ideas and the realities of professional performing straight into every rehearsal room.
It's something that sits at the heart of Finesse. Our students aren't just taught by people who once worked professionally — they're learning from performers who are still doing it today.
Before rehearsals begin, we caught up with DJ to find out a little more about life on and off stage.
Five Questions with Djalenga
What made you fall in love with performing?I grew up watching classic movie musicals like Kiss Me Kate and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. I always wanted to be Ann Miller or Jane Russell.
What's been your proudest career moment so far?Performing as Velma Kelly from Chicago on Big Night of Musicals. It was one of those moments where I had to stop and think, "Wow, this is really happening."
What's the biggest lesson you've learnt from working professionally?Everyone knows everyone, so always be kind.
What's something people don't realise about life in the West End?It's not nearly as glamorous as people imagine. It's an incredible career, but it's also physically and emotionally demanding. You have to genuinely love what you do because it's hard work, and it's important to remember that performers are human too.
